Look What I See

I see and taste a big Lemon Boy coming to my mouth soon.

I chose this tomato because of its name...Mr. Snow!

Eggplants for Bridgit and Emmy.

The ground cherry tomatoes are starting to think about blooming.

We've got several kinds of pole beans beginning to stick their necks out of the soil.

I see a few sunflowers in my summer!

Mark cut our first garlic scapes.

Garden Work Is Never Finished

Under Pappy's supervision, the boys are gettin' er' done!

Dang Dog

And sometimes she digs in the other raised bed.  Thank heavens it has nothing in it yet.

We know Imogene is the culprit...we have her on tape digging in the potato bed.  We think she jumps from the compost bin into the garden.  We know that she does it when we are not watching on mainly when we are not home. We know how she gets out.

We have almost emptied the compost bin into the garden beds.  We screwed a tarp to the bin and added a trash can so when she jumps in it the tarp will give some and the trash can will fall and make a horrible noise and hopefully scare her enough so she won't want to do it anymore.

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Path Mulching Day

Everyone works around here!

They got to use their own garden tools.

Not sure how much work these two did...

new beds

It looks so nice!

And feels so nice under your feet.

Sure hope it holds the seeds down so I don't have as much weeding to do.

What a big difference a year makes!  To the day!

Planting In The New Beds

We were able to plant some tomatoes and cucumbers today in the new and LAST BEDS.  Now for mulching the paths.

The Goat Pen clematis is growing like a bad weed and I couldn't be happier!

Some Seed Planting

Today is vegetable seed planting day.

I found some Daliah tubers that were given to me last year.  They were really pretty.  So we will see if they come up this year.  So far it doesn't look very promising.

I planted marigold seeds in the dead zone between the trellis and the fence in this bed.  Then I planted several kinds of pole beans the length of the trellis.  Can't wait to see how they look when they are ready to pick.

This bed is dedicated to pollinators.  Marigolds should be coming up soon.

The right side of this bed is going to be Swiss chard and the other half of marigolds.  It is hard to get to the plants when the tomatoes in front of them make a green tunnel that only Spiderman could maneuver through.

My friend Jen from down the street gave me a bunch of 'tall flower seeds'.  We have no idea what they are.

I found some little cukes that I have planted from seed.  We are getting more in a few days.  This will be the cucumber trellis.  I can handle wait to pick the cukes!

The Plants Will Soon Be Finding A Home

The rule around our house has always been that you don't plant until after Mother's Day.  Hopefully, there will be no more frost.

So after Wammyville closed and before Life Group started I took the plants to their new homes.  I didn't plant any because it was cold and raining.  But maybe tomorrow.  And we have to have a meeting of the Board of Directors to make sure everything will be planted in the right spot.  There are tomatoes in the Goat Pen.

The peppers are in the Strawberry Field.

More peppers...Murph loves peppers.

The tomato overflow went into the Trellis Bed/Emmy's Herb Garden.

More Goat Pen tomatoes.

And even more tomatoes...maybe we should call this bed Tomato Blvd.

THE LAST OF THE BEDS!!!

We have been working so hard and Murph is NUTS!  He just doesn't stop when he gets something in his head.  I am thankful for that but boy does he wear me down!  I'm tired at the end of the day...as we said in WI...I was WI tired.  On the plus side, it is an awesome weight loss plan.  Last summer I lost 30 pounds.

Here is a short video of what the garden looks like before we get everything planted and mulch on the paths.  Oh, and the irrigation. and the weeds pulled and whatever we decided to do at the last minute.  I understand that there might be a worm farm forming.  You just never know.  We took the trellis out of the big raised garden bed and put it in the new bed.  So now you can actually reach the veggies in the middle without hurting yourself.

Emmy and I plan to plant blackberries and two blueberry bushes in with all the strawberries.

Whatever you are thinking Murph, the answer is NOOOOOO!

Mother's Day In The Books

That's me...The Queen
(the electronic card from the kids)

I got to celebrate Mother's Day yesterday just the way I wanted to.  Church and teaching class, home to lunch fixed by someone else, and working in the garden.  Bonuses I got to talk to all the kids and grandkids, got to FaceTime with Michelle and Lyza, got gifts from people I didn't expect, got to go to a garden center for some plants, and had visits and garden deposits from Zimmerman's to help our plants flourish, and ended with a good night's sleep.

And I got to spend time in the garden doing with I love to do...getting dirty!

The planting is complete in this bed...Squash Alley!
10 dark zucchini plants
8 longneck yellow squash
2 white Patty Pans
countless sunflowers
2 Bastisia flowers for the pollinators and 48 strawberries

Now all we need is some kind of covering for the dirt and weeds in the walkways and this bed is DONE CITY.  On to the last beds to be constructed...Murph is on that as I type.

Back to Mother's Day...
Emmy came and cooked dinner...all my favorites
burnt hot dogs with mustard
fresh cut strawberries
Cheese Puffs and chips
Pepsi
And we ate out in the yard under the oak tree and watched the birds.
My kind of Mother's Day.

Thanks, everyone for making me feel like the Queen.

Horse Poop Day

Look what we get to do today.  Mark with to the Racer's yesterday and got some 2year old horse poop.  Guess what Murph and I did today!

The potato bed took the longest and most compost and horse poop.  I think we may have lost a few plants but we are hoping for the best.
We worked before the rain, during the rain, and after the rain.

We totally emptied the first compost bin.  Now maybe Imogene can't get to the raised beds.

I planted 20 sunflower seeds under the big bee on Mr. John's side of the yard.

One hill of zucchini in the triangular bed.

One hill of white pattypans.

I'm a little wet, smelly, and a lot pooped!  But I am ready to do some planting tomorrow.  I have some azaleas to plant along with several different bean varieties.  And who knows what else we will get into.

Time for a hot shower because I am sure all my muscles will be screaming at me if I sit down and clean comfy clothes will be nice.

A little bit of trivia...I planted 120 strawberries.  And they are looking great.
