On A Hot Summer Night

We let the girls out to play.  And they were on a little scavenger hunt.  Today I froze some blueberries, corn and carrots in a bunt pan.  I have read it helps to keep them cool on a hot day.   Then we had a seed cake and I filled a small chicken feeder.  I thought they would go right after it.  Nope, bugs and worms were better.  Oh, and my tomato plant!

Inez is the quiet, shy one.

EffieGrace showing off her stuff.

Estelle trying to decide where to go.

Ethel stands in the background and always tries to blend in.

That Susie, she's trouble!

Keithetta Renetta and Effie Grace playing King of the Mountain.

 They found the blueberry ring.

See, I have trick chickens!

A little visitor I see.

They are so fun to watch.  But I am a little scared to take my eyes off of them after finding just feathers ad then tonight a grackle somehow got injured and then Ella found her.  Not looking to good for the little black bird.

I got tired of fighting the mosquitoes and had to come in.  And I must say that Mark is quite the chicken wrangler.  He got them all in on the first try all together.  It was like they were playing follow the leader.  But he does have a magic chicken stick.

Play Date With The Big Girls

Susie is on the swing!

Now she is on the perch Mark made.  I think she likes all the distractions we have for them.  We wouldn't want them to get bored and start pecking each other.

Effie Grace is starting to get her beautiful big girl feathers.  She is right now in her ugly stage.  Just you wait to see how beautiful she is!

Looks like Keithetta Renetta is taking a little sit down break...that's unusual for her.

Might be time for a little dusting...

or maybe just a little resting.

Look at brave Emmy with her toes all tucked u under her.  I think she really likes them but won't let on like she does.

Inez, now she's a pretty one too.

They love the bugs in the grass.  I even think they look forward to their nightly little outings.

There she goes, Keithetta Renetta, running across the yard like a crazy chicken with her head cut off!

A Little Chicken Dump...Keithetta Renetta

You've heard the saying...'chicken with her head cut off"...well Keithetta Renetta (named in honor of my Father-in-law and my crazy next door neighbor) runs around just like that.  She most certainly must suffer from ADHD.

She is starting to get her big girl feathers.  And look at the ones on her legs.  She's the only one with feathers on her legs...she's special in so many ways

And she is really liking this free range gig every night!  The girls have already managed to eat every flower on the one lavender plant that we have finally been able to grow.  They are so fun to watch.
