Emmy And The Kids Help Out

They had to have one of Emmy's all-time favorite popsicles from when she was a kid.

We discussed and researched our next photo challenge.

Then Fiona and I got busy working in the garden,

Gardening attire is a swimsuit under your beach towel and my sleeves.

She gets right down there in the middle of everything.

She even climbs into the beds.

Saf enjoying herself.

Ernie is either eating a popsicle or a cucumber.

And then there is just relaxing and blowing bubbles.

Or a sweet cold treat.

Working on those pesky dead leaves on the cucumbers.  They drive me crazy.

She is staring at that huge cucumber.

She loves the basil also.

More cucumbers!

Don't mess with her when she is working.

I wonder how many she ate?
.
She squealed when she saw this one.

OH MY WORD!!

This morning before it got so blistering hot you couldn't breathe we picked cucumbers.  I had to pull out several vines because of a mosaic virus according to my awesome gardening "twin" that knows literally everything about gardening.

We are trying to decide if we should pull them all out and see if we can find some plants and plant more.  Or have we run out of time to d that.  We will let it go until the end of the month and see what happens.  He also gave us the name of something we can treat it with.

We did manage to get these beauties.

We picked this last night before Life Group.

Okay, call me crazy but I got the corn ready for the next big storm.  I talked Mark into helping me lasso all the corn and then tie it to the fence so hopefully, it won't blow over again.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Looking through the winter squash trellis to the Four Sisters area.

Look closely and you can see all kinds of cucumbers hanging from the top of the trellis.

Cucumbers Coming Out Our Ears

I have canned 15 quarts of different varieties.  We have a fridge full of refrigerator pickles and no I am being challenged to make some dill pickles in the crock.

Something I didn't know and I thought rather strange...the recipes called of oak leaves or grape leaves.  You break that right....leaves.  They are to go in between the layers of pickles, onions, garlic, and mustard seed to help keep the pickles crisp.  Had no clue.  I couldn't climb the oak tree to get fresh leaves so Mark headed to Jungle Jims to get some in a jar.

The kraut crock is now the dill pickle crock.

It is going to be a challenge for me not to open that lid for two weeks.  Man, I sure hope they turn out.

If you would like to try them here is a link to the recipe from God's Growing Garden.

Get Ready For Tomatoes

Here they come!  If we have hot weather after all this rain the tomatoes are going to be bursting at the seams!
