Farm Life As I See It

Inez putting her best side to the camera.

The Chuck Wagon is full to overflowing with fodder.

Pappy's Girls are getting big.

Boot doing a little Burning bush trimming for Pappy.

Ellis has them eating out of his hand now.

Oh no, they have found my stash!

Last Of The Signage

This sign has been a long time coming.  I had a vision for it seems like a year ago...after we found the Mail Pouch sign.

When we drive to the beach we know we are getting close when we start seeing SeeRockCity signs.

Couldn't be more perfect!

Love, Love, Love all the 'artwork'.  I  gave a try and painted the large quilt square in the center.  That is where the vision began.  Then I added the smaller quilt squares.  Back fence complete!

Friends, Old and New

Our friend AJ stopped by with Luke the other night.  Little did he know what he was in for.

This is Lisa, my new friend.  She is the daughter of a sweet lady in our Life Group.  I think she fell in love with The Boys.  I know they loved her hair  I didn't get a shot of Sharon feeding the goats.  Next time.

Up And At Then Early This Morning

Not only so we have a Cluck_Thru, we also have a Chuck Wagon filled with fodder (barley) that grows in the basement.

The chickens (almost all of the Bigger Girls) have found the compost bin.  So may hidden delights!

Pappy's Girls are really changing.

Look out Ella, here comes one.

The Bigger Girls have also discovered the goat pen as a delicious smorgasbord of dietary delights.

Had a little helper this morning for the early feeding.

Glamor shot (he was up on Pappy's shoulders playing King On Pappy.

And we found one egg under a pretty snippy chicken.

All this before 8AM this morning.  We are going to nap really well today!  All of us!

Covering All The Bases

Just in case some only has one eye open in the morning!

Peep And Stitch Come For A Visit

Sunday my dad and Stitch made a quick trip to OH.  He met The Boys for the first time.  The Boys couldn't exactly figure out the man with the cane and the long dog with the red vest.

They were finally okay with the new people in the yard so the world was once gain right.

Boogie loved his hair ears, and Marshall hat!  And my dad thought it was so funny.

And then they put on a show!

My dad was there for every feeding!  I think he really likes them.

Stitch would rather lay on the couch and look at them from afar.  She did finally figure out there was a rabbit in the yard.  My dad was surprised that she barked at it.

Fresh from under a broody hen!

He just couldn't get enough of them.  And I think The Boys felt the same way.

Right before he left to go home we fed the goats again.

I think next time he is her he might just try teaching them a few little goat tricks.

Hurry back Peep, the boys are already missing you!

It makes me smile!

Mrs Kaiser Comes For A Late Night Feeding

I try so hard to keep the boys on their feeding schedule.  But Monday nights with scouts they eat a little later.  Tonight Mrs. Kaiser needed to visit and love ont he boys.

Terry and I both continually have dirt under our fingernails.  That's jsut one of the things I like about her.  I help her with the Outdoor Committee for the Scout Troop.  She is teacheing me he ropes...I'm a slow learner for sure.  I hope she comes back more and stays longer each time. Maybe a campfire with s'mores.

First Emergency

My heart skipped a few beats yesterday.  Boogie had a bad day.  Here's the story....

My dad is here visiting and helping with all the feedings (pics to come).  We went out at 8AM yesterday morning to feed the boys and he guzzled his bottle.  He is always the first one finished and looking for more.  Played and acted normal.  The afternoon feeding was totally the opposite.  Mark had a friend drop by with his boys and Boogie would not eat a drop and all he wanted to do was lay in Kevin's lap.  He slept there just about their entire visit.  I got out my goat book and read as much as I could.  Semi-panic set in.  Then I FB messaged Digging Deeper Farm (the breeder).  Seemed like it was taking forever (probably actually 5 minutes).  I called her and left probably a frantic message.  She called me right back.  We went over his symptoms.  All the same but now he was up and munching on a few bushes.  At this point he could have eaten my prize plants I would not have cared one bit.  No drainage from anywhere, stomach not hard, ....she asked if I had taken his temperature.  Nope, had not thought of that.  She said I probably should just to see where he was.  Okay...no rectal thermometer int he house and the Amicon's didn't have one either.  Off to CVS, I rush.  The pharmacists probably thought I was a nut job.  Had on all my nasty 'farm clothes'.  Hadn't even bothered to shed my chicken shoes for normal shoes. And  might have shed a tear or two when I asked where the rectal thermometers were...thought it would be faster to ask. I didn't care I was on an emergency goat run.  Came home Boogie in Kevin's lap sound asleep.  I checked for breathing.  Of course the only thermometer I could find was a Smart one.  Had to download an app and set it up.  I tried three times but was too miscombobulated to get the job done.  Mark to the rescue.  Finally got it working and I must say it is pretty sweet.

I called Lisa back to tell her that his temp was 103.3.  She said his temp should be 100 to 103.  105 would mean a trip to the vet.  She really didn't have anything to offer but just watch him for a few day and see then consider calling the vet.  Well my momma goat self told me to call the vet and see what they would say.  Not hurting a thing to get a second opionon.  I would do it for my two-legged kids.  I called the vet in Bethel...Rolling Hills Veterian Services.  Whoever answered the phone ws soooo mice and reassuring.  Since the boys are 7 weeks old we are going to go ahead and worm them a week early.  Hopefully that will take care of the situation.

Night feeding went well and he seems back to almost his normal self.

Like everything else...it must be labeled with GOAT so no humans will use. And yes I took his temp all by myself.  Took me back to the days when the two-legged kids were little.  TMI I know.

This is surly going to be the best adventure of a lifetime...who needs exotic islands and expensive clothes to find joy.  Not this girl.  Just give me my chicken shoes and I am off running.

Mark's Friend Kevin Brings His Boys By

Jake and Boot got along just fine!

Ryan got attached to Scoot.

Not only are they goat feeders, the were egg gatherers...

...and chicken feeders.

Two of the boys really put on a rooftop show.

We had a little scare with Boogie...that is another blog entry for sure.
