A Few Sweet Ones

These are the sweetest chickens.  Leona loves Pappy's lap.

Scratching in the compost bin is one of their favorite things to do.

And with the yard clean-up for fall beginning they should have lots to scratch in.

And then someone found the compost bowl.

And she must have broadcast it to everyone else.

Finally!!!

Michael is the big winner today.  The first day of high school and he gets a double yolk.  Must be a good omen!

The Faces I Love In The Morning

Playing King of The Hill.

Egg Making Machines

Those crazy chickens! Tonight when feeding and watering the boys I found four eggs in the goat bed.  How they survive in there is beyond me.

First for me...a double egg.  Perfect for Michael's first breakfast of the school year...his first year in high school.  Where did the time go?

Mark Scared Me To Death

We have been having really unusual hot and humid days.  Those days where if you just think about going outside your clothes into sponges.  Miserable.  We have noticed that we need to fill up the animals water a few more times a day.  So Mark goes out to check on water int he middle of the afternoon.  He comes back in and yells at me that I need to come outside and see what has happened.  The first thing that entered my mind was one of the animals had died due to the heat.

I'm worried but when I saw this I laughed.  Silly goat!  He did this when he was smaller and could get himself out.  Once he saw me he looked and sounded like one of those goats that you see on FB beating really loud and sticking their tongues was out in the process.

He was sooo stuck.  There was no amount of shoving, pulling, squeezing...nothing getting him out!

He would calm down as long as I was in eyesight.  But the minute I was out of sight he would start screaming again.

We tried a crowbar and hammer.  No luck.  Then we realized that we would need to remove the board.  That wasn't ging to happen either.  Last resort was cut it with a saw.  I held Boot's ears and head so he wouldn't be scared or wouldn't be cut.  then I cut the back of the board.  I pried it again with the crowbar.  Then I muscled it off.

So now we have a missing board.  But not a goat trap anymore.

Such a pretty boy!

It Is Like Christmas Everyday

Biggest collection so far.  And look at the different sizes.  And where in the world did that white egg come from?

This is how I found Pappy's eggs...one, two and three...in just that order.

We Are Having Our Own Olympics

Pappy's Girls get a gold today.  Six eggs from 8 chickens.  Oh, check that...7 eggs I just put them in and found another egg.  And they are getting a little bit bigger.

And I am sporting the right t-shirt today.

I Think They Missed Me

Mark and I took a little day trip...127 World's Longest Yard Sale...on Saturday.  Michael was attending a Wilderness Survival campout with the scouts and Emmy was house sitting.  We talked Emmy to checking on the animals a few times during our time away.

When we came home this is what we found...

Ruby followed me all over the backyard clucking up a blue streak!

I think she wanted to know why she had to stay in her coop all day the day before.  To keep you safe you sweet little chicken.

Lots of shoving and pushing going on.  They couldn't get to me fast enough.

Ahhh, finally I can rest in my favorite spot.  And if you are good to me today I will leave you a little brown egg.

Hey, where is Pappy?

I need kisses...or maybe it was black licorice.

Beautiful Brown Eggs

We are on a big egg roll.  Pappy's girls are pumping them out.  The only thing that might be an issue...I keep finding eggs in the goat shed.  So far three little chickens haven't figured out that they have nice clean, private nesting boxes to lay eggs in.  I am amazed that they goat haven't stepped on them or eaten them.  Look at all the different sizes.  And check out that beautiful dark brown egg!  I just love a good brown egg!

In A Quick Ten Minutes

Tinkerbell came for a visit.

And so did little Tinkerbell.

This looks like a problem to me.  Boogie has found out that he likes chicken feed and scratch.

Hmmm...wonder how on earth this happened?

They love the back side of the burning bushes.

Just a little salad before bedtime.

Not sure how this happened or why but it makes me wonder...do we have another bully?

Gladys looks to be missing some tail feathers.

So now this is happening.

Scoot is trying to figure out how to get that orange ball.

Hey, Boot whatcha doing over on that end?

And now all three are climbing fools!

And then this happened.  Three eggs.  Has to be three different chickens.  But who?  And they are in the goat pen!  Somebody needs their wings trimmed.

Boot at the 'golden hour'.

They keep us busy.  They infuriate us sometimes.  We love them no matter what.  They are always baaing for us. They will eat you out of house and home.  They love to get into things they shouldn't.  The tend to play well with others sometimes.  They love sweets.  They paly nonstop.  They love to nap in the sun.  They think they should be on your lap when you are sitting down.  They need your attention.

If you think about it for a  minute....they are just like our two-legged, human kids!
