She's Broody Again

Ethel just can't help herself.  She moves eggs into the last nesting box and will sit for days.

Funny Little Story

Mark and I were in the car when we get a call from Michelle, part of the famous 'Husky Girls' of Heavenly Petsitting.

Jan, are your goats in your yard?
Hmm, I think so, Why?
Well, my neighbor has two goats wanting in his back door.
PANIC SETS IN...like heart attack panic.
Do you have a pic?
Yes, I'll send it to you.

Wow!  Not my goats!  But aren't they cute? Before I could say anything Mark looked me straight in the eyes and said NOOOOO.  I don't know why I let you get them in the first place.

Not to worry, they are now home safe and sound.

A Life Saver

I saw a posting for FREE straw on FB and left a comment hoping that we would get the bales. With all the rain we have been having our backyard looks like a swamp! We have been trying to get some chips delivered but no luck there so far.

And we go them!.  Funny thing, they were used in the Opening Day Parade on a trailer for people to sit on.  I like that!

And the chickens love it.

Stitch likes it too.

Mark even got them a bag of really good scratch.  They get to play hide and seek in the straw all day long.

I took an old stump out...kicked it out actually.  There were ants everywhere.  In come the chickens.  After eating all the ants and other bugs they decided that this would be a good place to have a dusting bowl.

Pretty flowers, pretty chicken.

A Little Lovin' and Some Brushing

So after the chickens were playing in the straw I spread some in the goat pen too.  And they loved it too.  I caught Boot sleeping on Boogie's back.

And everyone got a good brushing.  They loved to be brushed.  So much so that they push each other out of the way.  I just sit on the bucket and brush whoever is in front of me.

Work Needing To Be Done

You can tell these two are brothers.  Always picking at each other.

And then there is Boogie, the boss of them all.

Tomorrow is a big day.  If the weather is nice everyone will be brushed and hooves trimmed.  And of course, water bucket filled to the brim and food buckets filled up with feed.  There might even be a little sweet treat in the picture for these silly boys.

Day Or Night I'm Hunting For Eggs

Oops!  Someone, me, forgot to gather eggs before it got dark.  So I had to take my flashlight with me to make sure I found them all.  Found out we have a broody hen.  She had moved all the eggs over to her favorite nesting bok and was keeping them very warm.  Silly chicken.

So today I made sure to get out there early.  I had a little help also.

They Love The Sun Also

Not sure what to call this.

Feels so good.

Look closely.  Boogie has the feed bucket around his neck.  Don't ask me how!  I'm telling you there is never a dull moment around here.

They Are At It Again

I guess we won't be planting any flowers in the bathtub this year either.

I was hoping that they had moved on to another place.

So in the small red coop, there are four really nice, clean nesting boxes.  This is box 1.

Nesting box 2

Nesting box 3

Nesting box 4!  This is the only one that they use.  And they totally ignore the other cook all together.

I had a heart to heart with this beauty.

Told her that this was not the only nice nesting box.

She squawked a bit ...

...but then began to check them out.

One at a time.

Telling me all about it in each one.

Dusting Bathtub

Guess we won't be planting any flowers in her this year...or any other yesr as long as we have chicken using it as a dusting tub.

Please, Oh Please, Pretty Please

Good morning mom!  Did you bring me a treat?

Just one piece of liquorice!

Please! Pretty please!

We'll take a piece or two if you have extra!

It's An Awesome Day To Be A Chicken

She greeted and me and began chatting while I was gathering eggs.

I think she was reminding me to make sure that they had plenty of warm bedding.

She swears that there is some snow coming our way.

If I promise to make the bedding extra thick, she will see to it that everyone does their egg laying share.

We put lots of straw down for the goats.  And the chickens started scratching in it.

Side steppin'.
