Some Beauties

Sometimes the tomatoes hide among the clematis and you really need to look from every angle to find them.

The tomatoes showing us some love today.

All from a morning walk.

Mark has radishes in one of his grow bags.

What is this stuff?  I think it is spinach.  The Tower Garden has been unplugged for weeks but this just keeps growing.  It must have really long roots.

The remaining zucchini plants.

The peppers are turning red.

I just love a full basket.

A basket of any kind.

My last little Patty pan squash.

When you can't find a basket the yahoo's sand sifter will work.

They just kept coming.

I just love her!  That's two Patty Pans.

The Clean-Ups Continue

Once again I tackled the weeds.  I even transplanted flowers from other places hoping that one day this will be all filled in and you won't be able to see the weeds or the bare earth.  I'd love to be able to cover it with some nice mushroom compost or even mulch but with all the two and four-legged little beings we have digging and running around here, I am afraid it would not be worth it.

Most everything has given up.  There are a few lunchbox peppers, some cherry tomatoes and a few Boxcar Willy tomato plants remaining.

As soon as this zucchini is big enough to pick either garlic or onions are going in here.

I'm not sure what Pete Moss has in store for the empty bed.

Look, Murph, no scraggly grasses to try to get by.  We cut them all down!

Just need to wind up the soaker hoses in a few weeks and these beds will be closed for the winter.

The Little Tomato Thief

Avery loves a good tomato!

He eats them like apples. This one was supposed to go to Pappy.

Surprises From Every Corner

I have never seen this before.  The bean vine worked its way over to the tomato cage.  It wrapped itself around the cage and as it grew it pulled the tomato cage out of the dirt.  It was hanging in mid-air when I stumbled upon it!  CRAZY!

Even with the netting some cabbage moths got in and ate three of four plants.

Just now finally got some zucchini!  Planted once and the vine bores got all the plants.  So I went to the other side of the yard and planted six hills in the first raised bed.  All six plants have fruit on them.  I see some zucchini bread in our future.

On a  whim, I saved the top from the pineapple that we cut for dinner a few months ago.  I planted it in a little pot and look what happened.  All of the brown is the original top of the pineapple.  All the pretty green is a pineapple plant.  I have since planted it in a bigger clay pot.  Who knows what will happen over the winter.

The two growing bags are doing well.  I think it is time to thin them.  Carrots and radishes.

I found these hiding in the vines.

Wish I had known this years ago.  Those are raspberries we picked for our bushes.

Garden Clean-Up Begins

One lone Patty pan squash plant is left in Sunflower Alley.  Getting ready for the Wammyville Fall Fun Fest.  The strawberries will be covered with a blanket of straw for the winter.  But this will be transformed into a pumpkin patch.

The yahoos and I picked the beans and then I tore out the vines.  Still need to rake and probably take out some tomato plants.  All in due time.  Slow and steady wins the race but I would love to have it looking good by the end of the month.

Mason Bees

The Mason Bees are finally figuring out that they have a place to stay in our yard.

The female bee goes in the tubes and lays eggs and then stores food for when the eggs hatch.  The little bees eat their way out of the tubes.

I'm hoping next year we attract more.  All I have to do is replace the used tubes.

Update On The Veggies Around The Yard

Our little free roadside stand has been going great.

My little helper eats as many and he puts in the basket.

They love helping the the garden.

Picking (and eating) Pappy's raspberries.

One of our remaining mystery plants is a gourd.

And another one.

Lots of sweet raspberries today.

August Fruits And Veggie Photo Dump

Our peppers and cucumbers didn't do so well this year but our tomatoes have gone above and beyond last year's crop.

Mark is trying his hand at bag gardening.  I know that one container has carrots in it.  But I can't remember what he planted in the other one.

Our little vegetable stand at the end of the driveway.
