New Chicken Toy

The Little Girls and the Big Girls have a new toy...for boredom busters!  I fill one of Mark's bird suet feeders with all sorts of stuff.  Today it is old lettuce.

They have almost cleaned it out.  Really fun to watch their reactions.

Judy

Judy is definitely the most unusual bird we have.  Sometimes she looks awfully mean.  Reminds me of an eagle.

Notice her green legs.  That makes her one of the three that will lay colored eggs.  Can't wait to see what color they are.

She has the most unusual feathers.

She is one of the three youngest birds.

Her beard and sideburns are really growing out but her comb isn't very red at all.

Dory

She may be the last to lay!

She's my late bloomer.  She is just starting to grow her 'beard and sideburns'.

But she does have some beautiful feathers.

Sunny On A Good Day

Sunny is really stand-offish.  I have only been able to hold her once.  Luke can't even catch her.

Alaire named her and LucyLouWho has renamed her My Lellow Chicken.

All fluffed up!

Checking out the new part of the backyard.

Now she is pretty serious!

On the search for good bugs and berries.

Striking a pose.

The Best Layer On The Farm

I got an old ladder from a yard sale and the girls sometimes use it as a roost.  Well, if we put them up on it they do.

This is her Skinny Minnie pose.

So my tail feathers make me look fat?

Looking for tasty bugs to eat.

Little Noticed Inez

I caught her checking out the nesting boxes yesterday.  Today could be her day.

My hide and seek player.  She is always in the bushes and behind everyone else in line to eat.

Pretty Little Chicken

Almost everyone thinks that Susie is the prettiest chicken.  And I can tell you she is the funniest and the most likely to jump up in the chair beside you.

Just a little stretching.

Checking out the new plant she discovered.  Not a good thing.

Ethel Is Growing Up And Out

Check out her eating form!  Love the high tail.

I noticed that she loves to eat the Stella Doras.  this might not be a good thing in the spring.

I've seen her 'practice' sitting on the nest but no eggs yet.  I am not very patiently waiting for her to lay one of the chocolate colored eggs.  Looks like she is almost ready but the size and color of her comb.

She Might Be The Last

EffieGrace might be the last to do everything.  She is so timid.  She is the last to eat.  The last to go into the coop at night.  So I'm thinking she still had time.

I love her fluffy under feathers.

Crispy

Just realized that I haven't shown the beauty that Crispy is growing into.

Look at her...always yapping with her mouth open.

She has really pretty feathers.  And looks like maybe she might be laying pretty soon.

Ellis named her.  She was lucky, his second choice for a name was Nugget...which he thinks is hilarious.
