Fruit and Veggie Progress In May

We have our own process, and some of the items listed we use.  This year I planted Marigolds between each tomato plant for a little different twist.

Our drip irrigation in the eggplants.

The strawberries have been amazing this year.  So red and super sweet.  Just wish they would last all summer.

It amazes me how much we have learned along the way in our gardening adventure.  The top shot is when we first dreamed of having a garden in the spring of 2020.  The bottom is so far this year.  I have a few more things to add in the coming weeks, and I'll be a new shot then.

You know it is gardening season if you see Murph in the backyard with no shirt on.

Squashes, zucchini, and mystery pants are in the ground.

Goat pen full of peppers, eggplant, and cucumbers.

The potatoes are going to be on the ground pretty soon.

The garlic and onions are doing fine.

I love looking out the bedroom window in the mornings.  A breath of fresh air.

Squash

I'm not sure this poor little guy is going to make it.  I gave him a good pep talk, so we will see what happens.

He's our overachiever!

The cicadas found a weak plant.

I'm hoping they all survive the squash beetle.

This one is looking pretty healthy.  Last year wasn't our best year for any kind of squash.  But I have a good feeling about this year.

I Got My Second Wind

After working with Murph in the garden most of the day, I rested up, and lo and behold, I got a second wind.  So why not weed after dark while listening to a book?  It was magical.

The patio light gave everything a mystical vibe.

I got everything cleaned up and decided that I could sit out a little longer and have a campfire.

Sometimes I wish I could just live outside.  So peaceful.

The next day, we planted tomatoes with all our secret ingredients.

Once the rain subsides, we will start working in the goat pen.

Pappy's watering can collection seems to be hanging in there.

An empty bed for now.  What do you think we will plant there?

I have been able to plant some flower plants and some more bulbs...seeds will come as soon as the garden is in.

Hopefully, our cucumbers will grow better this year.

I added some Solomon's seal in the hosta.

Tomorrows adventure.

Our Berries Are Delish

My first job is picking strawberries on Monday morning.

I was able to hire two excellent pickers.

We always have a successful pick (and eat) when they help.

For all of their hard work, I made strawberry banana smoothies.

I agree that they might have been the best we have made so far.

After a long day of Wammyville excitement and working in the gardens with Murph, I literally threw together a little slice of heaven made with our berries.  I cheated on the crust.  It was still delish!

Let The Planting Begin

I am a little disturbed by the size of this hole/tunnel in the strawberry bed!  I could put a kids' size soccer ball in it. And you can see that it slides in on its belly.  I think it might be time to put out a trap to see what it is.

Tomato plants are the first plants to go in.

There they are all put in holes with Murph's magic ingredients, goat poo, dirt, fertilizer and a good water.

Trying to grow my Swiss chard in a pot this year.

And a little bit in the Bloom flower bed, where I will use it as a filler.

Eggplant and okra are ready for tomorrow's planting.

Sometimes you have to weed your flowers by patio light.

Great day today to be in the garden!

Plant Buying Day

Murph basically plans our day.  Mark is our designated driver.  Our first stop was Grant's Farm and Greenhouses in Williamsburg, OH.

Mark took us to breakfast at Moma's Porch and Grill in Batavia, OH. After we ate and hydrated, we headed to Kinner's right down the road.

We got 10+ 5 gallon buckets of Nanny nuggets or Baa-berrries also know as goat poop to use as fertilizer because we had such good success with the beds in the goat pen once we had no more goats.

Here are some shots of Jamie's babies.

And Murph thinks we need to go back for more.

Then off to the other side of the earth to one of our favorite places...Funke's!  They have everything and lots of plants you don't even realize you need.

Sometimes, every single time, we seem to go a little overboard with the number of plants we buy.

Back home, we head to our last stop...the Tomato Tree Man.  He was having a sale, so again, we have extra..

I am almost out of space.  It must be time to head home to unload it all.  Tomorrow, planting begins.

This is just a quick partial list.  Murph has some plants at his house, and we have seeds to plant too.  A better count will happen once we get it all in the ground.
