There's Good News and Bad News

We lost RayJeana yesterday.  Weh I went out to let the girls out I found her.  Makes me so sad.  Now I only have one green/blue egg layer.  I guess I will figure out pretty soon if she is the one that has been laying the fairy eggs.  But I am going to guess it was RayJeana.

I freaked when I went to get him new water.  I was hoping he was still in the yard.  He was there last night when I checked on him.  Nope, not in his usual spot and not in his box.  Yelled for Luke next door to be on the lookout for Binker.  Luke has two dogs and they love to chase things. The girls and I begin to search the yard.  Found him over by the compost bins under the wagon.  Good boy!  Bur before I could get him he was gone and under the trailer.  Had to call in reinforcements (Michael and his stick).

It didn't take to long for me to grab him.  I was ever so thankful that he didn't squeeze under the fence and head for Betty Lane or worse, towards Skyler's house. (he ahs two dogs also)  Seems to be fine.  No blood or protruding bones and he still has his tail.

CAUGHT!

We now have no tomatoes....red or green!  Thanks to these two.  I did find one little tiny green one way up on the top of the tomato plant that I hope they can't reach.  The good thing is that our Tower Garden in on the complete other side where the chickens never go.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Evidently there is a new dusting place...in the pea gravel around the campfire.

And then I find Susie in the flowerbed where she knows she is not allowed to go.

Playing In The Rain

EffieGrace and Keithetta Renetta having a little discussion...probably about what happened to EG.  And looks like someone has poopie butt.

Esthelle looking like she is on to something.

Ethel looking for Chickie Pa and his treats.  Just standing in the rain looking up trying to figure it all out.

Dixie running around like a crazy chicken.

Crispy checking out the camera.

RayJeana looking not so happy about something.

This is he dirtiest chicken on the farm.  her face and head are always covered in something.

I think Judy is stretching to see if she can be as tall as the big girls.

RayJeana's Egg Song

RayJeana's Egg Song

And there it is...one green egg!
She is so very proud!

The Egg song is actually a thing.  When a hen lays an egg she will cackle and sing her egg song.  Some think that she is announcing her accomplishment to the rest of the chickens.  She is telling them that she got down to business and they had better get on the ball and add to the community clutch.  Some seem to think that she is trying to draw attention away from the egg to keep it safe.  I really don't care which way it is...I just love hearing them sing.

RayJeana, The Runner

RayJeana is the hardest chicken to 'catch' in the lens.  She is always on the move or under a bush where it is too hard to get a shot.  She might be my second green egg layer!

First To Lay A Green Egg

I was shocked the other day when I went out to find a green egg.  I heard a ruckus in the Little Girls coop like nothing I had ever heard before.  Then when everything calmed down....a green egg in the nesting box!

I Can't Get Anything Done...

...because I am wearing a path to the chickens on an hurly basis.  Good thing Wammyville was closed today.  Working out in the yard I heard all kinds of ruckus in the coops.  I am getting to know the different clucks.  Today I heard a really fast, strong one.  Then a breather and then back to clucking.  I checked where the noise was coming from and found that one of the Little Girls was on the nest.  I was keeping my fingers crossed.  I figured out it was one of the Easter Eggers, Rayjeana.  Now I had to wait to see what color the egg was going to be.  Well, here is our first colored egg!

Now we can have green eggs and ham!

Check out that egg in the middle...long and skinny.  Have no idea who laid that one!  Guess I will be stalking the birds again tomorrow.  I'll put the yahoos on chicken alert.

Chicken Feathers

 Susie looks like a zebra.

Dory has tan and gray.

RayJeana has several different colors.

If I can ever catch the others standing still I'll get shots of them.  Each of the girls look so different.  Good thing, that way I an tell them apart.
