Where Did That Come From?

I was a little more than shocked...first to get three eggs in one day and then to have one of them to be a fairy egg.  The egg in front of the picture was really long and skinny and about three inches long.  The egg in the back was probably medium size. The fairy eg was about as big as a quarter.  I love a good surprise in the morning.

One Crazy Chicken

Inez loves me.  I know she does.  You ask me how I know this?  Because every night she refuses to sleep in the roost with the rest of the girls.  She sleeps as close to the back door as she can.  She is the first one up every morning and is there to greet me when I let the dogs out.

She was roosting on the top of the grill until I loaded it up with lots of things. Then she moved to the side of the grill.

Then Mark tied down the tarp.  She started out here but I found her under the tarp in the morning. I accidentally kicked her when I went out the backdoor to find her.

I put all the 'chicken shoes' away and made her a nice little nest close to the house for some protection from things that go bump in the night, and it is directly over the drier vent that runs until I go to bed around midnight some nights.  I even put her in it and had a little bedtime story for her about a good chicken that loved her mom so much that she wanted to always be close to her.  But how that wasn't a safe choice...

We even moved the grill farther away from the house.  This is where I found her tonight.  And it is starting to sprinkle.  Wonder where I will find her in the morning?  She is once crazy chicken for sure.

Said Good-Bye To The Green Chicken Coop

I might have shed a little tear when I saw the green coop all loaded in a trailer and headed down the driveway.  It was a good coop and I know without a shadow of a doubt that she will be looking great again real soon.  I got to meet part of her 'new family' and I really liked them.  They have been looking for a historical looking coop to match the more than awesome farm that they are restoring.  Of course, I checked them out of FB.

I can not wait to see how it turns out.

Now what to do with all the freed up space?  Mark mentioned if I would promise to keep the chickens in the coop and run, he would have one made and we could get more chickens and try to restore the backyard to what it looked like before The Girls came and destroyed it!  I am seriously considering it.  But after it dried out a bit I'll go in a clean it all up and then take a step back and weigh all my options.  But it sure would be nice to see more little chicks and all those beautiful eggs.

Goats Are Loving This Weather

Well, today anyway because it isn't raining or cold.

So I have figured out a way to get the buckets of food to their pen and leave them in the dust.  We are all usually shoving and pushing for the best bucket spot...me putting them on the hangers and them eating it even before I get it there.

All three of them were trying to eat out of the bucket in the back.  Silly goats!

Finally, Boot figured it out.  Looks like they all need a good brush.  I was able to trim some hooves this evening with Mark's help

They drink a lot of water...a lot.

As soon as everything dries out a bit we will begin the huge task of removing all the straw in the pen from the winter.  But it is going to be repurposed to mulch in the garden around the strawberry beds.  I am hoping it will help keep the weeds from getting so bad.  And there should be all kinds of treats in there for the chickens to scratch about.  But not in the garden.  Some of it will go on the outside of the fence.  The little alleyway between the outside of the goat fence and the yard fence.  There will probably be enough to put in the way back by the hammock pergola.  It is really going to be a big job but we will get it little by little.

I am amazed...as long as the sun stays out the girls lay 2-3 a day.  Love seeing the skelter full...just takes a little longer now.

Todays Egg Count

Well, I found 6 in the nest...

Five of them were frozen.  So today's total is 1 small egg.

And The Winner Is...

My boys voted me the best...how sweet...now to actually order the shirt...family?

Today I put an entire bale of alfalfa out for the goats thinking they could eat it just as it was and I would not have to cut the twine.  I look out and Boogie is sitting on top of it shivering...12 degrees out with no sun and lots of wind.  Mind you they have a really nice little barn with lots of straw to keep them warm.  Not too smart today.  Maybe the cold and this crazy weather has finally gotten to them and pushed them over the edge
