Play Date With The Big Girls

Susie is on the swing!

Now she is on the perch Mark made.  I think she likes all the distractions we have for them.  We wouldn't want them to get bored and start pecking each other.

Effie Grace is starting to get her beautiful big girl feathers.  She is right now in her ugly stage.  Just you wait to see how beautiful she is!

Looks like Keithetta Renetta is taking a little sit down break...that's unusual for her.

Might be time for a little dusting...

or maybe just a little resting.

Look at brave Emmy with her toes all tucked u under her.  I think she really likes them but won't let on like she does.

Inez, now she's a pretty one too.

They love the bugs in the grass.  I even think they look forward to their nightly little outings.

There she goes, Keithetta Renetta, running across the yard like a crazy chicken with her head cut off!

The Big Girls

First let me get things (chicken bunches) in order.  The first six will be known as The Big Girls (my father-in-laws sisters and other family members).  The second batch, we will call them The Three Stooges (that's my dad/mom combo and two crazy aunts).  And then lastly we have The Little Girls (the three that just happened in the truck the fist day Chickie Paw was able to drive for himself.)

So here are The Big Girls headshots.

The Welsummer...Inez

Silver Laced Wyandotte...EffieGrace

Buff Brahma...Keithetta

Austrolorp...Estelle

Silver Cuckoo Marans...Ethel

Barred Plymouth Rock...Susie

I'm 50% sure that I have the right name with the right chicken.  I guess I'll just have to wait a little longer to see how much more they change.  Maybe by the time they start laying at the end of the summer I will know exactly what name goes with what bird.  For now they come to me when I call them the girls.

Just a fun little tidbit...the other day I was in the run taking them and treat and talking to them and one of them (Ethel I think) fly up to the swing and sat there for a minute.  I was so startled I didn't get a pic of it.

He's Gone And Done It Again!

It is not a good idea to let Mark have lots of idol time on his hands.  That being said, we are now going to be even bigger chicken farmers.  Out little barnyard just grew by three more chickens and another coop and run!

Meet the littlest girls...

I've run out of family names so now it was time to enlist the help of the grand kids.  They got to choose names for their chickens.  Ellis named this little Golden Comet, Chrispy.  Which he thinks is so funny.

Shhhh, she's sleeping.  Alaire named the new Buff Orpington, Sunny.

This sassy little number came with a name.  She is a Dixie Rainbow (no kidding that is the breed) so her name has to be Dixie.

The second batch of chickens, the Easter Eggers, have taken these babies like they were their own.  I should look up to see if the are good brooders or not.  Hmmm...says they are occasional brooders.  Guess that means they can take it or leave it.  They sure have taken to these little babies.  Literally.  When there is a loud noise the little ones get right under them.  They have grown into a wonderful little family.

I guess they will be referred to as the big sisters and the little sisters.

An even dozen so I think we are finished!

Who Could She Be?

Still not too sure who this one is but I don't care, she likes me.  She will eat out of my hand and I have my kids as witnesses that she walks up my arm and perches on my shoulder.  Yes I have a trick chicken!

Just guessing that this is...this is either a Barred Plymouth Rock or a Silver Cuckoo Marans.

We Grow Vegetables Too

Not to brag, but we are pretty proud of our little garden.  Today this was our harvest!
