Night Report On Boogie

So I talked to the people where we got the goats..."Hi Jan, Just keep it clean and it'll be fine. When they have horn scurs, they can get knocked off sometimes. It should heal just fine. I know they can bleed like crazy though when it first happens." A friend sent me a FB message..."http://www.sufficientself.com/threads/help-the-goat-has-lost-one-horn.12732. And another 'farmer said. "I would call a vet at least to get the powder on it to stop the bleeding and give him pain meds.'  I called the vet and he gave me some tips.  So I did a combination of all of the above.  I even added ACV with the Mother in their water.

I bought soe of this beautiful red spray.  Boy does it stink!

Makes it look worse than it really is.

You really couldn't tell there was anything wrong with him.  Playing and eating like normal.  But maybe staying a little closer to my side than normal.  Eating and drinking well too.

Ella was out on goat guard duty.  I don't think she really understood what I was saying.  All she wanted was to be brushed/scratched.

The chickens were having a hay day in the goat pen today.  Have no idea what the excitement was all about .

See, eating the burning bushes as usual.

They just don't know when to stop.

Michael was the best goat wrangler tonight.  I'm glad he lives on our farm.  Knowing he can do this might be handy in the future.

I got a tesxt from one of my moms and she wanted to know if Boogie would be spending the night inside.  I said no.  I always ask myself WWTAD...What Would The Amish Do?

You Should See The Other Guy

This was yesterday.
And this is today.

This morning I went out to check on everyone since is sort of snowed and had been blustery during the night.  All water was frozen (while working in the yard we unplugged the chicken water heaters and forgot to plug them back in) and the rabbit was out of food thanks to some creature on the outside of the cage eating through the metal mesh at the bottom of the feeder.  When I got to the goat pen I say that Boogie standing in the sun, like he normally does.  With a closer look, I found this...

Oh my gosh!

When I asked the vet about trimming his horns that if he did they would be a bloody mess.  Well, I guess he was right.

Now I am wondering what I should do.

Leave it alone and let it heal up.

Or call the vet for a house visit.

I haven't even gone into the pen to check to see if I can find the horn.  I will later.  I have been keeping an eye on Boogie and he isn't acting any different.  I just don't want him to get an infection.

You should see the other guy.
These two play rough all the time...headbutting and seeing who can be king of the mountain.  So I am guessing that is how it happened.

Looks like a slaughter house.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Look what I found...

I Think They Missed Me

Mark, Michael, and I worked out in the yard today while the weather was nice. There must have been 500 million oak leaves and some odds and ends from Mr. John's yard :).  We raked, mulched, and cut them up with the lawnmower.  We used lots of them as mulch in the huge back bed.  Then we spread straw that they neighbors gave us.  The chickens think they have died and gone to heaven.  They are scratching all over the place.  They were fat and happy when the went to the roost tonight.

I am hoping for that big snow that they keep saying we are going to get.  The temp has dropped and it is mighty windy.  And the sky is dark gray.  Looks like snow to me.  Guess I will just have to wait and see.  You know what that means...I'll be up all night looking for it to come.

I've missed those happy little chicken faces.

And then there are the boys!  They were so funny.  The whole time we were working in the yard, they were running and playing.

Sometimes munching on things they know they are not to eat.

The girls love to bask in the sun!

I sat down to rest and ended up with a lap full of goats.  Then they had a little shoving match to see who could be king on Wammy's lap.  Boot one but lost interest and Boogie snuck quietly in.

They missed me!

Now, come on winter, show me what you've got.  I'm more than ready!
