I can not believe they are still laying so well. This is what I found when we came home from Christmas in WV. One days lay...

Christmas on The Farm
There's a little something special for everyone on Christmas morning. We were all getting ready and packed up to go to WV for our extended family Christmas. But first the animals needed to see what was in their stockings.
Birdseed tree given to me by Doodles and Noodles.
The Big Girls got cleaned out and new shavings scattered with a little extra bit of sunflowers scattered in. And some suet to keep them busy while we were gone.
Binker came out of his box long enough to eat a few carrots.
Buns ate her carrots and waiting for some love.
I let them out to roam for just a little while and Keithetta found her fist nightcrawler.
Love the stockings!
The Little girls got a cake of suet also. Gotta keep them busy so they don't peck each other.
Love the stockings. Saw them on Pinterest and thought they would be real festive. And the grands thought they were great!
Fun Time With The Girls and Ellis
I can always, always count on Ellis to help me with the girls. He loves them as much as I do. I think he needs a chicken or two. I've been trying to give them some different things so they can build up an extra thick layer of fat to keep them warm during the winter. They are not to keen on noodles.
But they do love to scratch. I'm thinking this spring the plants are going to need to toughen up to survive. Sunny love to back up against the tree and scratch right at the base.
Crispy just love a good run around the yard.
Keithetta doesn't look like she needs anything else to eat. She really isn't that big just fluffing.
Love those feathers.
Ethel is the hardest one to catch.
Pappy sure won't want this happening in the spring.
They have figured out where the treats come from.
Dixie and Crispy
Sunny's favorite spot to scratch...right in the middle of the hosta bed.
Ethel and Esthel just hanging out together.
Inez looking foe seeds.
Dory just blending in.
EffieGrace is on guard duty.
Ellis even knows where the chicken treats are.
And they come running to be the first.
I got this seed Christmas tree for Christmas from Doodles and Noodles. I hung it on the ladder to give them something fun to do. They are a little scared of it. But in time they will love it I am sure.
Love, Love, Love this!
Chicken Helpers and Bumblefoot
Two chicken assistants today to help check the bottoms of the girls feet for any foot pad dermatitis or bumblefoot. I have been closely watching for them to be limping.
Ellis was our chicken wrangler/catcher. Cassie was the holder. And I was the checker.
And this is what I was looking for. Shoot! And I thought I was doing everything to prevent this. Now to read all I can as to how to get her well. She still has no limp or anything. And wouldn't you know it would be Susie, the one with the split beak!
This boy loves to play with my chickens!
He has them jumping and eating out of his hands...and sneaking it out of the bowl.

Chicken Hearts
Shhhhh...don't tell my girls but when I was little my sister and I use to fight over who would get to eat the chicken heart. Turns my stomach now! I still like chicken (white meat only please). But I love these chicken hearts.
